Chris Bird creates paintings and mixed media artworks. He investigates the dynamics of landscape through the manipulation of painterly effects and explores the limits of representation based on our assumptions of perception. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination, luring the viewer into unique worlds and spaces.
His paintings don’t reference recognisable form. By applying abstraction, he creates an unprecedented situation in which the viewer is confronted with the conditioning of his own perception. The works focus on questions that determine our existence by exploring the concept of dimensionality in a way that increases the dynamic between viewer and image by objectifying form and investigating the duality that develops through interpretation.
